Throughout its history, the city survived the Viking invasions, successfully fought against the Crusaders, and was repeatedly occupied by the troops of various conquerors.
Venerable Euphrosyne of PolotskPolotsk became one of the centers of Christianity in the Eastern Slavic lands. The enlightener Euphrosyne of Polotsk was born here - the first woman in Belarus, canonized as a saint.
